Job summary

The City of New York is seeking a Director to join the Design Unit’s Section 4 – Consultant Design – Group 1. The successful candidate will supervise a Deputy Director and 2 - 3 teams of engineers and technicians responsible for timely design completions of DOT and NYCDEP projects.

The Director will develop standard construction language, maintain standard drawings and specifications for roadways, sewers, and water mains, and represent the unit in meetings with utilities and agencies, ensuring

Qualifications

• Must hold NYS Professional Engineer license and 6 years' engineering experience including 2+ years in executive/managerial capacity.
• Experience in design of infrastructure projects (sewer, water mains, roadways).

Responsibilities

• Supervise a Deputy Director and 2-3 teams of 12-20 engineers/technicians to ensure timely design completion.
• Develop standard construction language and maintain standard specifications for roadways, sewers, and water mains.
• Represent the Design Unit at meetings with utilities, the City, State, and Federal agencies.
• Provide technical support for design drawings, specs, and estimates; ensure compliance with City standards.
• Track priority projects, coordinate with staff, and train staff across design and construction support functions.
