NYC Department of Design and Construction seeks a Deputy Director for the Design Unit – Coastal Resiliency (Section 2). The role manages the annual capital program with multiple construction projects, overseeing professional staff and reviewing plans, while coordinating with sponsor agencies and utilities to resolve field issues and ensure contract compliance.
The Deputy Director will represent the agency in interagency meetings and ensure staff competence aligned with agency objectives.

The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Infrastructure is currently seeking a Deputy Director for the Design Unit – Coastal Resiliency - Section 2.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing annual capital program consisting of multiple construction projects. They will oversee professional and technical construction staff who manage capital-funded projects such as sewer, water main, roadway, climate resiliency, and public space improvements. Responsibilities include reviewing construction plans and initiating necessary filed changes during construction; working with sponsor agencies, private utility firms, and stakeholders to resolve field issues and order appropriate field changes; ensuring contract compliance, and timely payment approvals; scheduling and conducting inspections with contractors, consultants and stakeholders for final acceptance; and participating in initiatives to enhance or reform construction management practices.
Additionally, the Deputy Director will represent the agency in meetings with utility companies and city, state, and federal agencies as needed. They will ensure staff are competent to perform assigned tasks and are aligned with agency objectives and assist the Assistant Commissioner and Director in managing the program.
Educational credentials must be from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited institution. Credentials from foreign institutions require independent equivalency verification from an approved evaluation service.
