Job summary

Complex seeks a Director of Data Engineering – AI & Data Platforms to lead strategy, architecture, and evolution of our data and AI infrastructure. This hands-on leadership role builds scalable data platforms powering analytics, ML, automation, and generative AI applications.

Senior leadership will guide data modeling, pipelines, and cloud infrastructure while mentoring engineers in a fast-paced digital media environment. On-site in NY or LA.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in data eng, analytics, or related field.
• 3+ years leading data eng teams and driving data platform architecture.
• 5+ years with SQL including data warehouse modeling.
• 5+ years using Python for data engineering/workflows.
• 3+ years with Snowflake data modeling and optimization.
• 3+ years with AWS services (S3, EC2, Lambda).
• Experience with Airflow or similar orchestration tools.
• Strong data quality, testing, observability, and reliability skills.
• Experience supporting ML/AI initiatives via data pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Own data eng strategy, architecture, and analytics platform roadmap.
• Design scalable, secure data architectures and pipelines for analytics and ML.
• Set standards for data modeling, pipelines, testing, deployment, and observability.
• Lead batch and near-real-time data pipelines with SQL and Python.
• Oversee Snowflake warehousing for performance and reliability.
• Drive AWS-based data infra (S3, EC2, Lambda).
• Establish data quality, monitoring, lineage, and alerting frameworks.
• Evaluate new technologies to boost scalability and efficiency.
• Balance hands-on coding with architectural leadership.
