What’s the job?

The Director, Compensation is a key member of the Saint-Gobain Total Rewards leadership team, reporting to the Vice President, Total Rewards. This position manages a team of six and oversees the strategy, plan design, communications, and administration of compensation programs for 19,000 employees across the US and Canada. The role provides operational and strategic leadership to HR and Business leaders in North America to ensure the Total Rewards package remains competitive, meets employee needs, and supports our Employee Value Proposition and core values of Trust, Empowerment, and Collaboration. The role requires a passion for delivering innovative, sustainable compensation programs that promote transparency and enhance employee engagement while achieving business objectives.

What will you do?

The Director, Compensation will collaborate with the Vice President of Total Rewards, the Director of Benefits and Well-being, and the global team in France to execute the Company’s Total Rewards strategy, including:

  • Leading the implementation of the new Job Architecture in North America, aligning with the global structure and organizational goals.
  • Advancing the Pay Transparency strategy to foster engagement and transparency.
  • Leading the design and rollout of the new HCM and compensation platform, Workday, scheduled for spring 2026.
  • Partnering with Internal Communications and Employee Experience teams to develop clear communication supporting the Employee Value Proposition.
  • Enhancing the Employee Value Proposition Roadmap through innovative programs based on employee feedback, including a new recognition program.
  • Managing due diligence and integration activities related to mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.
  • Supporting labor relations strategies and union negotiations with relevant data.

What do you bring?

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • 8-10 years in HR, benefits, or compensation.
  • 5-7 years in strategic leadership roles.
  • Proven success in designing variable pay plans, delivering results, prioritizing tasks, and communicating effectively across levels.
  • Strong project and process management skills, with the ability to develop effective compensation plans aligned with business strategies.
  • Deep knowledge of compensation surveys, benchmarking, executive and sales compensation, and relevant regulations such as FLSA, 409A, Pay Transparency, and Pay Equity.
  • Excellent business acumen, analytical skills, communication skills, and executive presence.
  • Ability to build partnerships and foster collaborative relationships, emphasizing the employee experience.
  • Experience leveraging consultants and service providers to ensure competitive and employee-focused compensation programs.
  • Focus on continuous improvement and strong project management skills.
  • Experience with Workday compensation, Hay banding, PayScale surveys, and analytical tools is a plus.
