Job description

The Director, Compensation is a key member of the Saint-Gobain Total Rewards leadership team, reporting to the Vice President, Total Rewards. This position manages a team of six and oversees the strategy, plan design, communications, and administration of compensation programs for 19,000 employees across the US and Canada. It provides operational and strategic leadership to HR and Business leaders in North America, ensuring our Total Rewards package remains competitive, meets employee needs, and supports our Employee Value Proposition aligned with our core values of Trust, Empowerment, and Collaboration.

The role involves delivering innovative, sustainable compensation programs that promote transparency and enhance employee engagement while achieving business goals. The Director will collaborate closely with the Vice President of Total Rewards, the Director of Benefits and Well-being, and the Global Total Rewards team in France to implement and expand on the company's Total Rewards strategy, including:

  1. Leading the implementation of the new Job Architecture in North America, aligned with the global structure and market standards.
  2. Advancing Pay Transparency initiatives to foster a culture of openness.
  3. Leading the design and rollout of the new HCM and compensation platform, Workday, scheduled for launch in spring 2026.
  4. Partnering with Communications and Employee Experience teams to craft clear employee messaging supporting our Employee Value Proposition.
  5. Driving the evolution of the Employee Value Proposition through innovative programs, including a new recognition initiative.
  6. Managing due diligence and integration activities related to mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.
  7. Supporting labor relations strategies and union negotiations with relevant market and economic data.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, 8-10 years in HR/benefits/compensation, and 5-7 years in strategic leadership. The candidate should demonstrate success in designing variable pay plans, project management, analytical skills, and a deep understanding of compensation regulations and market practices. Proficiency with Workday, Hay, PayScale, and related tools is a plus. The role requires strong communication, partnership-building skills, and a focus on continuous improvement.
