Job summary

Alta Resource Technologies in Boulder, CO is seeking a Director of Bioprocess Engineering. You will own end-to-end engineered protein production, building and leading a fermentation and downstream team from shake flask to 10 m³ manufacturing scale.

The role combines internal process leadership with external tech transfer to CROs and toll manufacturers. You will translate bench-scale results into robust, transferable processes, drive cost reductions, and represent Alta's capabilities to partners,

Qualifications

• 12+ years in microbial fermentation with 5+ years in leadership
• Experience building and scaling bioprocess teams
• Hands-on scale-up from shake flasks to 10 m³
• Experience leading technology transfer to external manufacturers
• Experience selecting and managing CROs
• Familiarity with Bacillus fermentation and downstream processing
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience with data analysis and DOE

Responsibilities

• Own bioprocess strategy for engineered protein production across scales
• Lead fermentation and downstream development from bench to manufacturing
• Define scale-up/scale-down models and key parameters
• Drive titer, yield, and purity improvements via media/feeding strategies
• Oversee technology transfer packages and CRO collaborations
• Provide on-site and remote oversight of campaigns and troubleshoot
• Mentor and develop the bioprocess team
• Document and report progress to leadership
