Alta Resource Technologies, Inc. in Boulder, CO, is reinventing mineral extraction using protein-based chemistry.

The Director of Bioprocess Engineering will own end-to-end strategy for engineered protein production, from shake flasks to 10 m3 manufacturing, building and leading the fermentation and downstream teams. You will transfer processes to CROs and toll manufacturers, lead technology transfer, and collaborate with investors and government stakeholders.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of industry experience in microbial fermentation (10+ years with a Ph.D.).
• Demonstrated experience building and leading teams of scientists and engineers.
• Hands-on scale-up from shake flask through bench, pilot, to manufacturing scale (up to 10 m3).
• Experience leading technology transfer of fermentation and downstream processes to external manufacturers (CROs).
• Strong knowledge of Bacillus fermentation and downstream processing; DOE-driven optimization.

Responsibilities

• Set and own the bioprocess roadmap for engineered protein production and cost/capacity goals.
• Lead fermentation and downstream development across scales (1-10 L to 10 m3).
• Define scale-up/scale-down models and transfer parameters to larger vessels.
• Drive improvements in titer, rate, yield, and purity via media optimization and DOE.
• Oversee downstream processing development with KPI-driven metrics.
• Evaluate and implement new technologies to improve performance and reduce cost.
• Communicate results and risks to executive leadership.
