Job summary

Bentley Systems is seeking an energetic, technical software engineering leader to guide a 20-30 person team responsible for API and MCP foundational services. The role collaborates with Bentley product teams to define standards for shared API services used across multiple Bentley groups.

The leader will be a seasoned director or senior director, hands-on when necessary, and will work with a principal architect to ensure sound design.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in software development with leadership of global teams at scale
• Experience developing APIs, libraries, platforms, or specifications for developers
• Excellent written and verbal communication to diverse stakeholders
• Transparent leadership with high emotional intelligence and politics-free demeanor
• Willingness to travel ~25% globally
• Knowledge of TypeScript, JavaScript, C++, SQL, MCP, AWS, and/or Azure

Responsibilities

• Lead an engineering team of 20-30 across the US East Coast, Canada, Lithuania, India, and France
• Define and enforce modern software engineering standards and best practices

Bentley Systems

We are looking for an energetic, technical, and experienced software engineering leader to lead a team of 20-30 developers responsible for delivering our API and MCP foundational services. This team will be responsible for working across Bentley product teams to determine standards for all shared API services and delivering them for use across multiple Bentley teams.

This team will work closely as well with the teams building our API Hub and Commercial services, which will activate our Bentley users across industry to use our APIs and MCP servers in development of their own solutions.

This leader should be a seasoned director or senior director of software development. We believe in player/coaches, we want this leader to still be able to be hands on, able to help their teams solve technical issues, and work with a principal architect to ensure sound design. Most importantly they should be a leader of engineers who invest in the talent, growth, and results of the team.

Responsibilities

• Drive engineering outcomes aligned to desired business objectives by leading an engineering team of 20-30 colleagues, mainly across the US East Coast, Canada, Lithuania, India, and France
• Install a business-minded winning engineering culture and facilitate the team to converge on, document, and execute modern software engineering best practices
• Facilitate a culture of openness and collaboration, internally within and among teams, and externally with the open-source community that we serve
• Run the systems and processes to enable us to continuously ship high-quality software that users want while transparently engaging with stakeholders
• Collaborate cross-functionally, especially with product engineering to execute the roadmap
• Recruit; onboard; coach; grow; and proactively manage performance for individual contributors and leaders. You understand that your success is the team’s success and you are committed to architecting and supporting the team to create business outcomes

Requirements

• Has 15+ years of experience in software development with significant and sustained demonstratable experience leading global teams at scale to enduring business success
• Leadership experience developing successful APIs, libraries, platforms, and/or specifications for software developers
• Is a fantastic communicator in person and in writing to a variety of stakeholders, including technical and non-technical audiences, and individual contributors and executives.
• Is transparent, has no hidden agenda, and demonstrates a high degree of emotional intelligence. Operates without politics
• About 25% purpose-based global travel
