Job summary

Banner University Medical Group in Phoenix is seeking a Program Director to build and lead a new ACGME-accredited anesthesiology residency with strong educational leadership and clinical activity.

The role involves collaboration with Banner facilities, UA COM-P, and ongoing scholarly work to advance resident training and patient care. A commitment to mentorship, governance, and quality improvement is essential.

Qualifications

• Board certification in Anesthesiology by ABA or American Osteopathic Board of Anesthesiology.
• Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in Arizona.
• Eligible for UA academic appointment at assistant professor level or higher.
• Demonstrated faculty leadership, organizational and administrative skills.
• Ongoing evidence of academic achievements in anesthesiology (publications, educational programs, or research).
• Ongoing clinical activity and professionalism.
• Ability to administer and maintain learning environments per ACGME.

Responsibilities

• Oversee planning, initiation and administration of a categorical ACGME-accredited anesthesiology residency program.
• Report to the Chair and DIO; collaborate to grow and enhance the program.
• Lead and manage the residency program in line with accreditation requirements.
• Develop and evaluate educational programs to enhance resident learning and competence.
• Mentor residents, faculty, and staff; support professional development.
• Ensure accreditation standards and institutional policies are met.
• Foster collaboration with clinical departments and interdisciplinary teams.
• Engage in scholarly activities including research and presentations.
• Represent the program at national/regional meetings and committees.
• Approve or remove faculty; oversee candidate evaluation processes.
• Ensure sufficient faculty to supervise all residents.
• Provide a learning environment where residents can raise concerns confidentially.
