Job summary

Capital One in New York, NY seeks an experienced Director of AI Engineering to lead the Intelligent Foundations and Experiences (IFX) team. You will guide AI-powered product development, oversee model training, inference, and governance, and drive enterprise AI strategy with a focus on responsible, scalable systems.

The role emphasizes cross-functional leadership, cutting-edge research translation, and delivery discipline to transform banking experiences for customers and associates alike.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, AI, Electrical/Computer Engineering or related fields with at least 8 years of AI/ML experience, or Master's with at least 6 years of AI/ML experience.
• At least 3 years of people leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional engineers, researchers, PMs, and product managers to deliver AI-powered products.
• Oversee design, development, testing, deployment, and support of AI software components including foundation model training and LLM inference.
• Evaluate build vs buy decisions across Open Source and SaaS AI technologies (AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, VectorDBs, PyTorch).
• Invent and apply foundation model optimization techniques to improve performance, cost, latency, and throughput.
