Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Director, AI Engineer to lead AI foundations and experiences, and guide cross-functional teams in delivering scalable AI products. You will oversee foundation model training, large language model inference, and governance to ensure responsible, high-performance systems.

The ideal candidate has extensive AI/ML leadership experience, deep engineering and mathematical foundations, and a proven ability to scale AI solutions across teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree with required AI/ML experience as stated, plus years of leadership experience.
• Experience leading engineering teams and delivering AI/ML solutions at scale.

Responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products.
• Oversee design, development, testing, deployment, and support of AI software components (foundation training, inference, governance).
• Make high judgement build-vs-buy decisions across Open Source and SaaS AI technologies.
• Invent foundation model optimization techniques to improve performance, cost, latency, throughput.
• Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems.
