Job summary

YAI in New York is seeking a dedicated Direct Support Professional to assist individuals with developmental disabilities by promoting independence, safety, and meaningful community participation. You will implement person-centered plans, document progress, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.

The role requires patience, strong communication, the ability to handle challenging situations, and compliance with HIPAA and program policies.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Ability to meet essential physical demands including lifting up to 25 pounds and assisting with transfers.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Willingness to obtain SCIP-R and other program certifications within one year.
• Ability to work with people with I/DD and remain calm in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist individuals in maximizing strengths and building positive relationships.
• Support people to meet personal goals and engage in community activities.
• Maintain a safe, clean therapeutic environment and follow safety protocols.
• Document services, progress notes, and incidents accurately in the electronic health record.
• Participate in team meetings and communicate program needs.
• Deliver crisis interventions per approved plans.
