Job summary

The Arc Eastern Connecticut is seeking a Direct Support Professional for a full-time, on-site role in Ledyard, CT. You will support individuals with IDD in daily living, recreation, health needs, and community integration.

Responsibilities include implementing individualized support plans, administering medications, documenting progress, and ensuring safety. Starting wage is $20.20 per hour, with benefits and career advancement opportunities.

Qualifications

• Prior experience working with people who have disabilities preferred.
• Ability to mentor and assist people in all areas of life skills including recreation, independence, communication, and health.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Applicants must possess basic computer aptitude and be able to speak/write in English.

Responsibilities

• Deliver training, support, and assistance to participants in personal care, recreation and leisure, daily living skills, social skills, health needs, personal preferences, exercising of individual rights, community integration, and behavior management.
• Participate in design, implementation and monitoring of the participants’ individualized support plan.
• Accurately administer prescribed medications to participants as ordered by physicians.
• Accurately complete required documentation including program data, incident reports, daily log, progress notes, and health records.
• Ensure participants health and safety including prevention of abuse, CPR, First Aid, Heimlich, and evacuation procedures.
• Provide transportation to recreational and community activities.
• Prepare participants meals following menus.
• Mentor and assist people in life skills including recreation, independence, communication, and health.
• Maintain a positive work ethic and work with limited supervision.
• Advocate for and protect participants’ rights per Arc policies.
• Treat individuals with respect and dignity, promoting choice.
• Maintain a mature attitude with participants, families, staff and the public.
• Collaborate with all departments to support participants.
• Attend all staff meetings and trainings; maintain attendance.
• Keep supervisor informed of significant events or needed changes.
• Serve as a positive role model and advocate for participant choices.
• Develop positive relationships with participants, families, and providers.
• Respond promptly to needs of participants, families, and providers.
