Job summary

The Arc Eastern Connecticut seeks Direct Support Professionals to empower individuals with IDD to achieve independence in daily living, recreation, and social engagement. You will support personal care, health needs, rights, and community participation.

Responsibilities include implementing individualized plans, administering medications, documenting progress, and ensuring health and safety. Training and advancement opportunities are available within a compassionate team.

Qualifications

• Prior experience working with people who have developmental and physical disabilities preferred.
• Must have the ability to mentor and assist people in all areas of life skills including recreation, independence, communication, and health.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Applicants must possess basic computer aptitude and be able to speak/write in English.

Responsibilities

• Deliver training, support, and assistance to participants in personal care, recreation, daily living skills, social skills, health needs, rights, community integration, and behavior management.
• Assist in design, implementation and monitoring of individualized support plans.
• Accurately administer prescribed medications as ordered by physicians.
• Accurately complete required documentation including program data, incident reports, daily logs, progress notes, and health records.
• Maintain health and safety, including CPR/First Aid/Heimlich and fire evacuation procedures.
• Provide transportation to recreational and community activities.
• Prepare participant meals following published menus.
• Mentor and assist people in life skills across recreation, independence, communication, and health.
