Job summary

Delta-T Group is seeking Direct Support Shelter Advocates for a 24/7 shelter operation in Medford, MA. The role supports homeless families by providing basic services and helping move them through the shelter towards independence.

Immediate start at $21/hr, temporary contract with opportunities to extend. Responsibilities include rounds for safety, meal prep assistance, crisis intervention, and maintaining order.

Qualifications

• Experience with homeless individuals or families preferred.
• CPR and First Aid certifications are a plus.
• Ability to ascend/descend stairs and lift 5–20 lbs as needed.

Responsibilities

• Initiate and maintain appropriate social interactions with residents and assist residents as needed.
• Conduct rounds of shelter to maintain safety and security of residents.
• Assist with preparation, serving and cleanup of meals during the shift.
• Intervene if a resident in crisis (medical, mental health, interpersonal).
• Complete assigned tasks of shift.
• Maintain order and cleanliness of the shelter.
• Monitor bedrooms, bathrooms, and dayrooms to maintain safety and security of residents and premises.
• Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings and trainings.
• May assist in room cleanups and packing rooms.

Summary of Client's Description Of This Opportunity

This position is part of a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week team of professionals providing shelter and support for homeless families. We are responsible for the provision of basic services to clients and for the safe day to day operation of the shelter. The overriding goals of the shelter is to move families out of shelter and this position supports that culture in all ways possible. The shelter is located in Medford, MA.

Key responsibilities of the position:

• Initiate and maintain appropriate social Interactions with residents and assist residents as needed
• Conduct rounds of shelter to maintain safety and security of residents

Client's Requirements

• Previous work with homeless individuals and/or families, disabilities or other at-risk populations
• Ability to work alone and handle crises with good judgment, adequate communication skills - both written and oral
• Current CPR and First Aid Certifications are a plus .
• Must be able to occasionally ascend/descend stairs up to three or more sets, frequently move equipment weighing up to 5-20 lbs., and remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
