Job summary

Delta-T Group Massachusetts, Inc. is seeking Direct Support Shelter Advocates for a Lowell shelter. Immediate start. You will be part of a 24/7 team providing shelter and daily essentials to homeless families, helping with safety, meals, and goal-oriented transition out of shelter.

Shift options include 8am–4pm, 4pm–12am, and 12am–8am. You will interact with residents, conduct rounds, assist with meals, respond to crises, maintain cleanliness, and participate in trainings and staff meetings.

Qualifications

• Experience working with homeless individuals or at‑risk populations.
• Ability to work independently and manage crises with good judgment, communication skills.
• Current CPR and First Aid certifications are a plus.
• Physical ability to ascend/descend stairs and move equipment as needed.

Responsibilities

• Initiate and maintain appropriate social interactions with residents and assist as needed.
• Conduct rounds to ensure safety and security of residents.
• Assist with meal preparation, service and cleanup during shift.
• Intervene in crises related to medical, mental health, or interpersonal issues.
• Complete assigned tasks for the shift and maintain facility order.
• Monitor bedrooms, bathrooms, and dayrooms for safety and cleanliness.
• Attend monthly staff meetings and required trainings.
• Assist with room cleanups and packing as needed.

Summary of Client's Description Of This Opportunity

This position is part of a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week team of professionals providing shelter and support for homeless families. We are responsible for the provision of basic services to clients and for the safe day to day operation of the shelter. The overriding goals of the shelter is to move families out of shelter and this position supports that culture in all ways possible. The shelter is located in Lowell, MA.

Our client's current needs are for first shift (8am-4pm), second shift (4pm-12pm), and third shift (12pm-8am)

Key responsibilities of the position:

• Initiate and maintain appropriate social Interactions with residents and assist residents as needed
• Conduct rounds of shelter to maintain safety and security of residents
• Assist with preparation, serving and cleanup of meals during the shift
• Intervene if a resident in crisis (medical, mental health, interpersonal)
• Complete assigned tasks of shift
• Maintain order and cleanliness of the shelter
• Monitor bedrooms, bathrooms, and dayrooms to maintain the safety and security of residents and the premises
• Attend and participate in monthly staff meeting and any other required trainings
• May be involved in rooms clean ups and packing rooms

Client's Requirements

• Previous work with homeless individuals and/or families, disabilities or other at-risk populations
• Ability to work alone and handle crises with good judgment, adequate communication skills - both written and oral
• Current CPR and First Aid Certifications are a plus .
• Must be able to occasionally ascend/descend stairs up to three or more sets, frequently move equipment weighing up to 5-20 lbs., and remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
