Job summary

Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health in New Jersey seeks a Direct Support Professional to support adults with autism and developmental disabilities, helping them gain independence and participate more fully in their communities.

You will join a collaborative team focused on growth, training, and ongoing support, with pathways for career development and advancement within a leading behavioral health nonprofit.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Valid, non-provisional driver’s license preferred.
• Completion of two-week paid orientation (hybrid and in-person).
• Ability to respond calmly, exercise good judgment, and ask for support when needed.
• Empathy, reliability and teamwork in supporting adults with autism and developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Support individuals in residential group homes or vocational programs.
• Ensure safety, health and well-being of those in care.
• Coach daily living skills such as cooking, cleaning and shopping.
• Plan and document programs addressing social, emotional, physical, and personal needs.
• Facilitate community-based employment, day programs and outings.
• Build positive relationships with families to support ongoing development.
• Transport individuals to appointments and activities as needed.
