Job summary

NAFI Connecticut is seeking Direct Support Professionals for the Corey Rd program in North Haven, CT. You will help three men with intellectual disabilities build daily living skills, independence, and community integration, following individualized plans and behavior supports.

You'll provide essential care, transport as needed, document progress after each shift, participate in trainings, and maintain professional boundaries.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid Driver's License required.
• Experience with DD/MR or Behavioral Health populations.
• Prior experience in group homes, hospitals, human services, or behavioral health settings.
• CNA/PCA experience preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with clients, families, and team.
• Knowledge of crisis prevention and de-escalation techniques preferred.
• Familiarity with behavior support plans and implementation strategies.
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries and build trust with clients.
• Documentation and reporting duties.
• CPR/First Aid certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support personal growth: assess client skills and provide counseling on independent living and pro-social behaviors.
• Guide and inspire: coach on interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, and boundaries.
• Be a role model: demonstrate professionalism and positivity in all settings.
• Provide essential care: assist with daily living activities, meals, and safe transportation as needed.
• Document progress: record interactions and observations after each shift.
• Stay prepared: participate in trainings and meetings and maintain certifications.
• Handle challenges: use crisis prevention and de-escalation techniques when necessary.
