Job summary

Guiding Angels at Home Care in Knoxville, TN (37920) is seeking a Direct Support Professional (DSP) for Community Integration & Employment Transportation. This part-time, in-person role supports a young adult with autism by accompanying him in community activities and ensuring reliable transportation to and from his job.

You will coordinate 6+ hours of weekly support, with flex scheduling and some shifts aligned to the academic calendar.

Qualifications

• Requires valid driver’s license and reliable insured vehicle.
• Willingness to pass a background check and maintain a clean driving record.
• Patient, punctual, and person-centered approach to support.
• Able to follow a person-centered support plan and safety protocols (allergies).

Responsibilities

• Provide community integration support one-to-one with the client.
• Encourage exercise and health activities during outings.
• Promote independence and community involvement.
• Provide prompting and hands-on assistance as needed; follow the support plan.
• Arrange and provide safe transportation home from work (3 trips per week).

Guiding Angels at Home Care is seeking a compassionate, reliable Direct Support Professional (DSP) to support a young adult man in the Knoxville community through Tennessee's Employment and Community First (ECF) CHOICES program. This is a meaningful opportunity to help an individual with autism build independence, stay active in his community, and get to and from his job.

The person you'll support is employed, motivated, and enjoys his gaming, music, and time with family. He values his independence and his work, and he's looking for support to get out into the community, exercise, and reliably get home from his job.

Schedule & Hours

• Community Integration Support: ~6 hours per week (flexible scheduling)
• Employment Transportation: 3 one‑way trips per week (transportation home from work)
• Total: Approximately 6+ hours of community support per week, plus transportation
• Some flexibility required around the individual's work schedule (currently works for a school system; schedule shifts with the academic calendar)

What You'll Do

Community Integration Support (1:1)

• Accompany and support the individual on outings into the community
• Encourage and participate in exercise and physical activity for health and wellness
• Promote community involvement, social connection, and independence
• Provide verbal prompting, written direction, and hands‑on assistance as needed

Employment Transportation

• Provide safe, reliable transportation home from work (3 trips per week)
• Ensure the individual arrives home safely and on time

Requirements

• Valid driver's license, reliable insured vehicle, and clean driving record (transportation is a core duty)
• Ability to pass a background check
• Reliable, punctual, patient, and person‑centered approach
• Comfortable supporting an individual with autism and following a person‑centered support plan
• Awareness of and willingness to follow allergy/safety protocols (individual has severe allergies — EpiPen awareness preferred)
• Prior experience as a DSP, caregiver, or in disability/home‑care services is a plus
• CPR/First Aid certification a plus (or willingness to obtain)
• Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) — comfortable clocking in/out via phone for visits
