Summary
The Direct Support Professional works on an interdisciplinary team delivering high‑quality services and appropriate activities within the home and community setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist clients with basic living skills and daily personal tasks (e.g., showers, dressing, housekeeping, grocery shopping, meal preparation, financial budgeting).
- Provide transportation to and from activities and appointments; requires a valid Arkansas driver’s license.
- Maintain communication through facility logbook, staff meetings, and other appropriate means to share client needs and progress.
- Accurately complete required documentation (behavioral reports, incident reports, compliance forms, personal care work sheets, requisitions, maintenance forms, progress reports, monthly attendance logs, and other FCC‑required documents).
- Follow and maintain documentation and mileage/billing forms for FTA vehicles in compliance with Medicaid guidelines.
- Report incidents and emergencies to supervisors or delegated authorities immediately.
- Assist in formulating, managing, revising, and following the client’s Plan of Care to ensure treatment and safety priorities.
- Follow medication management guidelines and assist with monitoring and documentation of medication procedures.
- Organize and conduct recreational activities for clients.
- Model positive behaviors for clients through appropriate appearance, FCC dress code, and respectful actions.
- Treat clients and their families with dignity and respect, representing FCC’s mission.
- Maintain FCC facilities and grounds cleanliness, order, and functionality.
- Assist in cleaning and preventive maintenance of FCC vehicles.
- Attend required training and pursue ongoing education.
- Provide proof of liability insurance and keep it current.
- Undergo periodic driving tests and demonstrate proficiency in operating passenger vans and other vehicles.
- Maintain confidentiality of all information received about Friendship Community Care, Inc. and its clients, per the non‑disclosure and HIPAA policies.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; or two or more years of experience working with developmentally disabled individuals.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Language Skills: Ability to read, comprehend, write simple correspondence, and present information to one‑on‑one or small group settings.
- Mathematical/Computer Skills: Basic arithmetic, rate/ratio/percentage calculation, graph interpretation.
- Reasoning Ability: Apply commonsense understanding to follow written, oral, or diagram instructions.
- Physical Demands: Hands, tools, standing, walking, reaching, sitting, lifting up to 100 lbs. Vision requirements include close vision, color vision, depth perception.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Follow code of conduct and compliance investigation procedures established during new employee training.
- Maintain and complete consumer progress notes daily or as needed.
- File and update consumer records weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly per funding source requirements.
