Responsibilities include light housekeeping, meal prep, dog walking, and running errands, with documentation of services.

Qualifications

• Must have or be willing to obtain Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) certification.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain it.
• Able to safely perform household tasks, light yard work, dog walking, and other moderately physical activities.

Responsibilities

• Perform light housekeeping, cleaning, laundry, and general household upkeep.
• Prepare meals and assist with cooking.
• Assist with yard work and outdoor tasks; walk the client’s dogs.
• Provide companionship and respectful one-on-one support.
• Help with errands and community activities as needed.

Pay: $14–$18/hour, based on experience

Safe Haven Home Care is seeking a dependable, personable Male Direct Support Professional (DSP) to work one-on-one with an adult male living independently at home in Hamilton.

Our client has Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy, which affects his strength and mobility. He has no intellectual or cognitive impairments and is independent in making his own decisions. He primarily needs an extra set of hands to help with everyday household tasks that have become physically difficult, along with reliable companionship and support.

This is a great fit for someone comfortable working independently, who enjoys helping around the house, and can build a genuine, respectful working relationship with the person they support.

What You'll Help With

• Light housekeeping, cleaning, laundry, and general household upkeep
• Meal preparation and cooking
• Yard work and basic outdoor tasks
• Walking and helping care for his two dogs
• Assisting with physically demanding household activities
• Running errands and assisting with community activities as needed
• Providing companionship and conversation
• Helping maintain a safe, comfortable, and organized home
• Supporting independence rather than doing things the client can safely do himself
• Completing required documentation related to services provided

About the Home

The client lives alone with two dogs, so you must be comfortable being around and handling dogs. His home is his personal space, and we are looking for someone who understands the importance of being respectful, dependable, and professional while working in someone else's home.

Schedule

• Consistent weekly hours
• Schedule details will be discussed during the interview
• Potential opportunity for additional shifts with Safe Haven if desired

Requirements

• Male DSP preferred based on client preference
• Must be comfortable with dogs
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
• Ability to pass required BCI/FBI background checks
• High school diploma or GED
• Must have or be willing to obtain required Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) certification
• CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain it
• Able to safely perform household tasks, light yard work, dog walking, and other moderately physical activities
• Dependable, respectful, and comfortable working one-on-one without constant supervision

Previous DSP or caregiving experience is helpful, but personality and reliability matter just as much for this position. We are looking for someone Johnny can be comfortable having in his home on a regular basis.

What We're Looking For

This isn't a position where you'll spend your shift simply "watching" someone. Johnny is an independent adult who needs practical help with the physical parts of everyday life.

We're looking for someone who can show up consistently, help where needed, have a conversation, walk the dogs, make a meal, tackle some things around the house, and be someone Johnny can rely on.
