Job summary

New Horizons in Autism, Inc. (NHIA) in Mahwah, NJ, is seeking a Direct Support Professional for its Day Program. You will provide direct care, supervision, and encouragement to adults with autism in a structured environment, helping participants develop life skills and independence.

Starting pay is $19.00 per hour. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with evenings and weekends free. We offer comprehensive training, paid time off, and benefits through a nonprofit employer.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or higher degree.
• Must be at least 20 years of age.
• Valid New Jersey driver’s license.

Responsibilities

About the Role

As a Direct Support Professional (DSP) in our Day Program, you'll provide direct care, supervision, and encouragement to adults with autism in a structured, engaging environment. You'll help participants develop independence, build life skills, and enjoy meaningful daily experiences while supporting their health, safety, and personal goals.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Providing direct care, supervision, and individualized support
• Assisting with personal care and activities of daily living
• Administering and documenting medications
• Teaching and reinforcing life skills
• Providing transportation to community activities and appointments
• Maintaining accurate documentation
• Creating a structured, engaging, and supportive daily environment

Schedule

Monday through Friday
8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Qualifications

High School Diploma, GED, or higher degree (diploma or transcripts required)

Must be at least 20 years of age

Valid New Jersey driver's license

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with individuals with autism

Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment

Must successfully complete all pre-employment requirements, including:

• Central Registry
• CARI
• DMV Check
• Drug Screening
• Physical Examination
• PPD Testing

Starting Pay: $19.00 per hour
