Job summary

PHINIA is seeking a Direct Materials Buyer for our On-site Aftermarket Remanufacturing Plant in Troy, MI. You will source and manage direct materials to support aftermarket and remanufacturing operations, ensuring supply continuity, cost competitiveness, and quality across diesel fuel injection systems, starters, alternators, and other components.

The role requires 3+ years in purchasing or supply chain, experience with supplier management and PPAP/APQP, and proficiency in SAP or ERP tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field.
• 3+ years of purchasing, sourcing, or supply chain experience in automotive, aftermarket, remanufacturing, or manufacturing environments.
• Experience in supplier management, strategic sourcing, commercial negotiations, and direct material procurement.
• Knowledge of automotive quality systems, PPAP/APQP, and technical documentation.
• Experience working in global, cross-functional environments and influencing internal and external stakeholders.
• Proficiency with SAP or other ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI).

Responsibilities

• Execute sourcing strategies for direct materials supporting aftermarket and remanufacturing operations.
• Ensure continuity of supply while optimizing inventory, working capital, cost, quality, delivery, and customer service performance.
• Manage supplier relationships, negotiations, contracts, performance metrics, and development initiatives.
• Support RFQs, sourcing decisions, cost-reduction initiatives, and long-term commercial agreements.
• Partner with Engineering, Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, Demand Planning, and Customer Service to support new products, engineering changes, launches, and customer requirements.
• Evaluate supplier capabilities and support PPAP, APQP, supplier transfers, and quality compliance activities.
• Monitor supply risks and elevate concerns while supporting mitigation and recovery plans.
• Monitor supplier performance through KPIs, scorecards, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support inventory optimization, shortage recovery, and supply disruption management.
• Ensure compliance with PHINIA sourcing policies, purchasing procedures, and ethical sourcing standards.
• Support supplier improvement, cost savings, sourcing optimization, and productivity initiatives.
• Partner with Global Supply Management (GSM) and plant stakeholders to support sourcing objectives and supplier performance initiatives.
• Participate in cross-functional procurement initiatives supporting supplier performance, sourcing activities, sustainability, and operational improvements.

Job Purpose

PHINIA is currently looking for a "dynamic, results driven" individual to join as a Direct Materials Buyer at our Aftermarket Remanufacturing Plant in Troy, MI. This is an on-site position and the candidate is expected to be on-site 5 days per week. The Direct Material Buyer is responsible for sourcing and managing direct materials that support PHINIA's aftermarket and remanufacturing operations. This position ensures continuity of supply, cost competitiveness, quality performance, and supplier responsiveness across a broad range of product lines including diesel fuel injection systems, starters, alternators, turbocharger actuators, and other future product categories. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of aftermarket and remanufacturing business models, including variable demand patterns, service-level requirements, product lifecycle management, and supplier risk mitigation.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute sourcing strategies for direct materials supporting aftermarket and remanufacturing operations.

What we're looking for
