Job summary

Precision Castparts Corp. in Milwaukie, Oregon is seeking a Dimensional Engineer to support the concurrent engineering process with customers and to provide expert judgment on dimensional development of castings. Qualifications

• Requires a BS or MS degree in engineering with 2+ years relevant experience preferred.
• Broad knowledge of mechanical, industrial, materials science engineering along with investment casting technology.
• Knowledge and demonstrated ability in engineering principles and disciplines; employed manufacturing processes; statistical analysis; technical report and article preparation; ability to supervise/direct activities.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the concurrent engineering process with customers.
• Participate in correcting engineering related problems.
• Work with customers to ensure that the dimensional tolerances are compatible with process capabilities.
• Assist in preparing quotes.
• Prepare plans for dimensional development of the casting including trial pieces, fixture concepts, and straightening techniques.
• Determine shrink factors and information to be used in each tool; assist in reviewing tool concepts.
• Review dimensional analysis of tools and waxes; review layouts to determine tool acceptability.
• Provide technique cards and input for technique cards.
• Use dimensional inspection results and statistical analysis to identify areas needing further development.
• Develop written action plans documenting dimensional problems and plans to address them.
• Work with Product Engineer and database to determine costs and pursue cost reduction.
• Be aware of shipping goals for each part number and support manufacturing to meet them.
• May supervise other engineers or technicians on assigned projects.
• Identify and address safety considerations within scope of responsibilities.
• Be responsible for annual cost savings projects totaling 3x the employee's salary.
