Job summary

Precision Castparts Corp. in Portland, Oregon is seeking a Full-Time Visual/Dimensional Inspector to verify castings meet customer specifications and to minimize rework.

You will perform visual inspections to identify defects and dimensional measurements with micrometers, calipers, height gauges and ultrasound, documenting findings and supporting engineering in addressing quality issues. Training is provided; you will train others and ensure safety rules are followed.

Qualifications

• Visual and dimensional inspection skills demonstrated by training or work experience.
• Ability to read and follow specifications on Tech Cards and other technical material, perform arithmetic.
• Ability to perform dimensional inspection with proper techniques.
• Ability to read precision hand tools.
• Vision 20/30 correctable, depth and color vision tests.
• Ability to train and direct others, communicate effectively.
• Ability to work independently.
• Able to lift/maneuver 30–50 lbs, occasionally up to 80 lbs.
• Work in conditions with noise, dust, chemicals, or awkward positions.

Responsibilities

• Visually inspect castings to identify surface defects.
• Measure dimensions using templates, micrometers, height gauges, calipers and other tools.
• Check hardness per heat-treat specs using Brinell, Rockwell, and other instruments.
• Mark castings to identify areas needing rework to meet spec.
• Collaborate with engineering to establish inspection techniques and report dimensional issues.
• Maintain logs and records; provide training and work direction as needed.
