Job summary

The New School seeks a Full-time Technician in Digital Tools for Parsons Making Center. The Technician will support laser, 3D printing, CNC milling, and other fabrication spaces, ensuring a safe environment and high-quality service for students and faculty in a busy interdisciplinary setting.

Responsibilities include demonstrations, equipment maintenance, documentation, and onboarding of new staff and students, working primarily on campus with a strong emphasis on collaboration across

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required with 3+ years of relevant or professional experience.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to work non-traditional schedules including nights and weekends.
• Experience with digital fabrication techniques and cross-disciplinary design practices.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the Making Center facilities and maintain a clean, safe environment.
• Provide high levels of customer service to students, faculty, and staff.
• Support students in using laser cutting, 3D printing, CNC milling, and digital prototyping.
• Output 3D prints and CNC projects for the service bureau.
• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain hardware/software in multiple labs.
• Create instructional content, orientations, and tours for new users.
• Manage scheduling, inventories, and metrics via administrative systems.
• Supervise student workers and provide onboarding and training.
