Job summary

The New School's Parsons Making Center seeks a Full-time Technician in Wood and Metal to support daily operations of the N2 Wood Shop, E4 Wood and Metal Shops, and related spaces. You will supervise student workers, manage tool checkouts, maintain safe practices, and assist with demos, trainings, and equipment documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree with 3+ years of experience in wood/metal fabrication or related field.
• Knowledge of a variety of production and fabrication techniques including wood and metal processes.
• Ability to work safely with hand/power tools and lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the Making Center facilities and maintain a safe, clean workspace.
• Supervise student workers and coordinate training and scheduling.
• Manage tool checkout, inventories, and equipment maintenance; support demos and orientations.
• Prepare clear, user-friendly technical documentation and signages for labs and equipment.
• Assist with facility improvement projects and campus-wide Making Center initiatives.
