Johnson C. Smith University seeks a Digital Content Editor to ensure up-to-date, on-brand content across digital channels.
The role requires mastery of graphic design, copyediting, and content creation for websites, campaigns, and social media. The ideal candidate will coordinate with University Communications and Marketing, Alumni Relations, and other units to maintain voice and strategy, while guiding content calendars and CMS usage.
The Digital Content Editor works with faculty, staff, students and other contributors to ensure that the University has up to date and appropriate content on all digital channels that is consistent in style, tone, branding and quality and in alignment with other marketing materials that the University is producing. This person must be an expert in graphic design and in the creation of content for digital channels including, but not limited to, website, fundraising campaigns, marketing campaigns, and social media. The person in this role will be responsible for contacting and working with key shareholders across the University to maintain the accuracy of information across platforms. The ideal candidate will have a mastery of the English language and the ability to copyedit, develop compelling graphics, write and proofread a variety of University materials across various media including printed works, digital works, graphics and other marketing materials generated by the University, to ensure a high quality of work and high content standards. Must be able to work within a Content Management System and able to create and understand content calendars for the creation and posting of digital materials. Works with the members of the University Communications and Marketing Department to create content needed for all channels of communication for the University, but primarily focused on digital channels. Reports to the Director of University Communications and Marketing.
Requires a bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism or communications, supplemented by 2-4 years of experience in the field, preferably in digital marketing and online content management. Excellent attention to detail required. Knowledge of AP-style writing. Experience editing copy with a high degree of precision and accuracy. Familiarity with Microsoft Office (including Publisher, Photoshop and FrontPage); Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, Photoshop and/or other publishing software. Needs to be familiar with Content Management Systems and how they generally function. Knowledge of HTML and CSS also helpful. The equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
