Reporting to the Director of External Affairs, you will develop and implement outreach strategies, manage our digital presence—including websites—and serve as a key contact for media and stakeholders. The Maryland Department of Planning (MDP) provides guidance, analysis, outreach, and support to ensure the preservation and protection of the state’s natural resources, built environment, and public assets to achieve economic, community, and environmental vitality. This is done in partnership with other state agencies, local jurisdictions, and non-governmental organizations. Within MDP, the External Affairs team manages all communication efforts, including digital presence and serving as the contact for press inquiries, PIAs, and interactions with external entities. The Digital Communications Manager is responsible for managing the Department's digital presence, including websites, social media, content creation, brand consistency, and performance analysis. The role involves coordinating outreach, internal and external communications, and constituent services by developing digital media content, practices, protocols, marketing programs, and outreach strategies. The position also acts as a secondary press contact, provides communication to external constituencies such as planning professionals and media, and manages outreach to the Department's constituents. Additionally, the Digital Communications Manager serves as the webmaster, ensuring content updates, maintenance, and oversight of content, functionality, and user experience to effectively convey the agency’s and administration’s mission and vision.
Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher.
Experience: At least two years in communications and/or web management.
Experience in website development and management, including Drupal. Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop), SharePoint 2019 and SharePoint Designer, HTML (Visual Studio Code), Hootsuite, Zoom, GovDelivery, Google Analytics 4, Google Looker Studio, production printing with Fiery Command Workstation, social media platforms, database management, hybrid/virtual meeting platforms, and content writing for websites and promotional materials.
