Dietary Manager (Healthcare)

Position summary

The Dietary Manager is a key leadership position responsible for the successful operation of Dining Services. This role involves preparing meals and managing the operations of the Dining Services Department, including staffing, food ordering and accountability, menu planning, food delivery, and sanitation, all in accordance with health department regulations. The Director ensures client and customer satisfaction through efficient, cost-effective management that exceeds expectations. They also assist in maintaining a positive physical and social environment for residents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Supervise, assign duties, and direct all food service department employees, maintaining full accountability for dining services.
  2. Ensure equipment maintenance and that work areas are clean, safe, and orderly. Adhere to procedures regarding infection control, food safety, chemical handling, fire safety, and sanitation, addressing noncompliance promptly.
  3. Maintain food costs within budget and ensure strict inventory control.
  4. Use independent judgment and discretion in decision-making.
  5. Interview, recommend hiring, and orient new staff.
  6. Create and adjust staff schedules, considering employee requests and operational needs, exercising discretion.
  7. Track attendance and implement disciplinary actions when necessary.
  8. Communicate and enforce policies on employee conduct, safety, sanitation, and human resources; discipline and recommend corrective actions as needed.
  9. Evaluate employee performance and recommend employment adjustments based on evaluations.
  10. Conduct quarterly dietary QA audits.
  11. Plan community and individual resident menus in coordination with healthcare providers and staff, including special events.
  12. Ensure meals are prepared according to recipes, are nutritious and appealing, and are presented attractively. Provide snacks for residents with dietary restrictions.
  13. Ensure proper storage, defrosting, and preparation of food following safety and sanitation standards.
  14. Deliver excellent customer service to residents, visitors, and staff.
  15. Perform duties courteously and professionally, prioritizing resident safety and satisfaction.
  16. Greet visitors warmly, including residents' families, prospective residents, vendors, and regulators.
  17. Answer phones professionally, adhering to community standards.
  18. Ensure compliance with residents' rights and all relevant regulations.
  19. Ensure staff attend required training sessions and provide in-service training as needed.
  20. Participate in training sessions as directed by supervisors.
