Job summary

Mary Health of the Sick seeks a Dishwash Assistant to maintain clean and sanitized dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment while following food safety and infection prevention guidelines. You will operate the dishwashing machine, manage three-compartment sinks, and monitor temperatures and sanitizer concentrations as required.

The role includes meal service support, tray line setup, dining room clearing, restocking, and safe handling of adaptive dining equipment.

Job description

The Dishwasher supports safe and timely resident meal service by maintaining clean and sanitized dishes, utensils, kitchen equipment, and work areas. The employee follows food safety, infection prevention, chemical safety, and resident rights requirements and works under the direction of the Dietary Supervisor.

Dishwashing, Cleaning and Sanitation

Set up, operate, and shut down the dishwashing machine and three-compartment sinks according to manufacturer instructions, facility procedures, and sanitation requirements.

Collect, scrape, sort, pre-rinse, load, and unload dishes, trays, cups, utensils, pots, pans, and food service equipment while keeping soiled and clean items separate.

Wash, rinse, sanitize, and air-dry items; inspect each item for food residue, damage, or contamination; and rewash or remove items from service when needed.

Check and document dish machine wash and final rinse temperatures and sanitizer concentrations at required intervals. Report out-of-range results immediately and stop using equipment when safe sanitation cannot be maintained.

Use test strips, detergents, sanitizers, and other chemicals at the correct concentration. Follow labels, Safety Data Sheets, and facility procedures, and never mix chemicals.

Clean and sanitize the dish machine, sinks, spray arms, counters, racks, carts, shelving, floors, mats, walls, and drains according to the cleaning schedule.

Store clean and sanitized items in designated areas protected from contamination. Remove chipped, cracked, rusted, or otherwise unsafe items from service and notify the supervisor.

Meal Service and Kitchen Support

Maintain an adequate supply of clean dishes and utensils for scheduled meals, snacks, and nourishment service, and promptly communicate shortages or delays.

Assist with tray line setup, meal service, dining room clearing, kitchen cleanup, and restocking as assigned. Follow tray tickets, menus, and diet instructions and do not make substitutions without approval.

Handle adaptive dining equipment carefully and return it to its designated storage area for resident use.

Remove trash and recycling, break down boxes, clean waste containers, and keep work areas, exits, and traffic paths clear.
