Job summary

Stars Behavioral Health Group in Merced, CA, seeks a Dietary Cook for the Merced Crisis Residential Unit. This on-call role prepares and serves meals, including therapeutic diets, while accommodating client allergies and preferences.

You will maintain food safety, assist with housekeeping, and may transport clients using facility vehicles when needed. A high school diploma and a valid California driver's license are required, with at least six months in similar settings preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid California driver’s license required; agency driving criteria may apply.
• At least 1 year of dietary experience in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, or related medical environment (preferred).
• Experience with therapeutic diets preferred.
• Six months of housekeeping experience in a hospital, hotel, or similar setting.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and serve meals according to planned menus, including therapeutic and special diets, while accommodating allergies, dietary restrictions, and preferences.
• Maintain proper meal schedules and food temperatures to ensure quality and safety.
• Adhere to all food safety and infection control standards; keep kitchen and dining areas clean and sanitized.
• Perform general housekeeping duties and provide transportation for clients using facility vehicles as needed.

What you bring to SBHG

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Licensure & Driving Requirements: A valid California Driver’s License and eligibility to meet agency driving criteria. This role may require operating a company vehicle to transport clients.
• Experience: One (1) year of dietary experience in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, or related medical environment (preferred).
• Experience and knowledge in preparing therapeutic diets (preferred).
• Six (6) months of housekeeping experience in a hospital, hotel, or similar setting.

How you will make a difference

This position has the primary responsibility for preparing and serving meals according to planned menus, including therapeutic and special diets, while accommodating client allergies, dietary restrictions, and preferences. Maintains proper meal schedules and food temperatures to ensure quality and safety. Adheres to all food safety and infection control standards, keeping kitchen and dining areas clean and sanitized. Performs general housekeeping duties, including cleaning floors, furniture, closets, telephones, and vents. Also provides transportation for clients as needed using facility vehicles.

• Population Served (Capacity): Serving adults, ages 18-59
• Facility & Setting: 24/7 inpatient voluntary program, 16-bed facility
• Clinical Services (Core): Rehabilitation/recovery services, including substance use rehabilitation services
• Length of Stay: 30 day stay
• Skills & Services: Pre-vocational or vocational counseling and medication evaluation and support services.
