Job summary

Stars Behavioral Health Group is seeking a Recovery Counselor, On-Call for our Crisis Residential Program in Sacramento. This position provides direct care to meet clients' physical and psychosocial needs, with on-call AM/PM/NOC shifts and about 8 hours per week, in-person.

The role requires a valid California driver's license, auto insurance, and MHRS certification (can be obtained after hire). Depending on education, experience levels vary from high school diploma to master's degrees in mental

Qualifications

  • Valid California Driver’s License and current automobile insurance; driving record must meet policy.
  • MHRS certification required (can be obtained after hire).
  • Recovery Counselor I: High school diploma plus one year of full-time experience in consumer-directed services.
  • Recovery Counselor II: an Associate degree with 6 years; Bachelor’s with 4 years; or Master’s with 2 years in mental health.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care to meet physical and psychosocial needs through direct and indirect interactions under supervision.
  • Duties performed by Program Coordinator or designee with some tasks completed independently.

Starting Compensation: 21.02 - 25.22 USD Per Hour

Working Location: Sacramento: Crisis Residential Program (In-Person Position)

Working Hours/Shift: On Call, AM / PM / NOC Shift, 8 hours per week

What you bring to SBHG (qualifications)
  • Licensing: Valid California Driver’s License and current automobile insurance and must maintain a driving record that meets the company driver's eligibility policy.
  • Certification: Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist (MHRS) certification required (can be obtained after hire).
  • Recovery Counselor I Education/Experience: High school diploma (or equivalent) plus one year of full-time experience in consumer-directed services within a mental health, healthcare, or social services setting.
  • Recovery Counselor II Requires one of the following education and experience combinations:
    • Associate degree: Plus, six years of experience in the mental health field.
    • Bachelor’s Degree (Mental Health Field): Plus, four years of experience in the mental health field.
    • Master’s Degree (Mental Health Field): Plus, two years of experience in the mental health field.
How you will make a difference (job overview)

This position has primary responsibility for providing direct care to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of the clients through direct and indirect physical and verbal interaction. Duties are performed under direct supervision of the Program Coordinator, or designee, in most cases, but some tasks are accomplished independently.

Programs: Voluntary Residential Program for Transition-Age Youth (TAY) Population Served: At-risk Transition-Age Youth (TAY) needing a higher level of care short of psychiatric hospitalization | Capacity: Up to 15 youth Facility & Setting: 24/7 Voluntary Residential Facility Clinical Services: Individual therapy, group rehabilitation, medication management, and clinical case management Length of Stay: Extended residential treatment timeline (varies based on individual stabilization, recovery, and housing transition goals) Skills & Transition: Educational guidance, vocational training/support, and housing placement/location assistance Recovery-oriented care, peer support, life skills development, and community connection building
