Job description

Basic Function

To assist the cook in providing nutritious meals by preparing and serving food attractively, while maintaining high standards of sanitation and safety.

Essential Duties

1. Store food properly – in containers and off the floor.
2. Correctly store toxic items.
3. Use appropriate and timely hand washing techniques.
4. Follow proper sanitation and infection control procedures.
5. Cover food en route to the serving area.
6. Deliver meals on time in an organized and efficient manner.
7. Follow correct procedures for isolation trays.
8. Obtain substitutes or increased portions as requested.
9. Verify resident tray with dietary card and resident.
10. Follow safe procedures for hot/steam carts.
11. Deliver nourishment and dietary supplements to units per schedule.
12. Provide fresh drinking water to all residents per schedule.
13. Bring special eating utensils and equipment to unit or dining room.
14. Properly dispose of garbage and waste.
15. Sanitize food preparation equipment, dishes, and utensils per policy and procedure.
16. Maintain equipment in a clean, safe, and functional manner.
17. Return items to their proper place.

Supervision Received

Receives supervision from the Dietary Manager or cook in charge.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Food service experience preferred.
• No convictions for abuse, neglect, mistreatment, or misappropriation of property.
• Prompt and regular attendance.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Basic math skills for adjusting recipes, measuring, and scaling.
• Ability to read, write, perform simple calculations, and follow oral and written directions.
• Ability to cook a variety of foods in large quantities, familiar with seasonings and cooking times.
