Position Summary:

The Dietary Aide performs designated work and cleaning routines for the Dietary Department and is accountable to the Dietary Manager. In absence of the Dietary Manager, the Dietary Aide is accountable to the Cook.

Qualifications for a Dietary Aide:

• High School graduate and previous institutional dietary service experience is preferred.
• Ability to read, understand and follow recipe directions, diet orders, tray cards and work assignments.
• Willingness to perform routine, repetitive tasks with frequent interruptions.
• Numerical accountability for recipe preparation and proper measuring of cleaning agents and chemicals. Good motor coordination and manual dexterity are required for preparing food, serving trays, handling dishes, operating equipment, and cleaning.
• Flexibility to work hours during emergencies and patience and tolerance towards staff, residents, and family members.

Duties of a Dietary Aide:

• Perform work routines using dietary utensils, supplies, and equipment as assigned.
• Assist the cook in meal preparation and service.
• Meet scheduled meal and snack times.
• Follow federal and state regulations and facility policies.
• Perform cleaning duties as scheduled.
• Assist in arranging tray cards, loading food carts, and serving meals.
• Set up dining areas and serve residents.
• Wash and store dishes.
• Lift up to 50 lbs.
• Report supply and equipment needs, damages, or safety issues.
• Assist in receiving and storing supplies.
• Understand and follow fire and disaster plans during drills and emergencies.

Follow facility infection control policies, ensure residents are treated with kindness and respect, and comply with HIPAA regulations.

• Report grievances to the Dietary Manager.
• Accept duties cooperatively and be accountable for data in the employee handbook.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
