Job summary

Scripps Mercy San Diego is seeking a part-time Diet Clerk to support Food and Nutrition Services at the Hillcrest campus. The role includes processing diet orders, helping patients with menus, and addressing food and allergy questions in a patient-centered environment.

Preferred candidates have customer service and health care food service exposure, with possible nutrition coursework. The position offers benefits and a varied shift schedule.

Qualifications

• SD County Food Handler Card; or Food Safety Certificate, or able to pass Food Handlers test within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Process diet orders accurately and maintain current diet orders and menus.
• Assist patients with menu selections and identify food vs medication allergies.
• Serve as liaison between Nursing and Food and Nutrition Services to handle patient questions and dietary issues.
• Check tray line for patient tray accuracy and function in a call-center like environment.

This is part-time, fully benefitted position working 40 hours every two weeks, located at our Scripps Mercy campus in Hillcrest. Must be available to work a varied shift (start time will be dependent upon the department's need) and varied schedule including weekends.

Our Diet Clerks provide administrative and clerical support for Food and Nutrition Services. Responsibilities include processing diet orders, assisting patients with menu selections, and distinguishing between food and medication allergies, Maintains current diet orders and menus to ensure compliance to the physician diet order. Checks tray line for patient tray accuracy. Able to function effectively in a call center environment. Serves as a liaison between Nursing and Food and Nutrition Services departments handling patient complaints, food issues and basic questions about meals/diets.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Must be able to speak, read, and write English
• SD County Food Handler Card; or Food Safety Certificate, or able to pass Food Handlers test given by certified manager or designee within 30 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Customer Service experience
• Food Service experience
• Food Service experience in a healthcare setting
• College courses in nutrition
