Ryder System, Inc. in Columbia, South Carolina is hiring a Diesel Technician Trainee. This on-site role offers paid training, weekly pay, and a clear path through progressive stages of the trainee program.

You will receive pay increases as you advance, with additional certifications and bonuses, including a $100 per new ASE certification up to $700, plus quarterly bonuses up to $500. The schedule is Monday–Friday with weekends off, second shift 3:00 pm–11:30 pm, and benefits begin after 30 days.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Zero to one year mechanical experience with diesel engines preferred.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Proficiency in English written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated customer service skills.
• Strong technical aptitude with ability to learn to use and maintain equipment and machinery preferred.
• Ability to troubleshoot quickly and work independently or on a team.
• Represent Ryder professionally to customers and colleagues.
• Time management and prioritization skills.
• Good attendance history and accountability.
• Basic computer skills and MS Office familiarity.
• Beginner knowledge of machines/tools and shop management systems preferred.
• CDL-A preferred.
• DOT safety regulated position; safety sensitive.

Responsibilities

• Move heavy vehicles in yard or to service areas and fuel diesel, natural gas and hybrid vehicles safely.
• Perform multi-point inspections and report issues to the shop.
• Maintain fuel island area to Six Sigma standards and assist with facility maintenance.
• Complete Technician Training Development Program modules and assessments.
