Job summary

Casella Waste Systems, Inc. is seeking a Diesel Technician Apprentice to learn from an experienced Casella Waste Diesel Technician in our New York fleet. You will assist with preventative maintenance, basic repairs, and safety practices to keep vehicles and equipment in reliable condition.

The program emphasizes hands-on diagnostics and progression through defined career paths as you gain proficiency in brakes, hydraulics, tire work, and safety procedures while supporting a busy operations team.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Valid driver’s license (Class A, B, or C).
• Basic knowledge or experience in automotive, diesel or heavy equipment diagnostics and repair.
• Legally eligible to work in the United States.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks (lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, standing).
• Pre-employment drug screen is required.

Responsibilities

• Gains an understanding of basic parts, processes, and maintenance techniques as instructed by knowledgeable technicians.
• Learns how to complete all work orders and perform maintenance tasks based on driver pre-/post-trip inspections.
• Performs duties in accordance with safety policies to ensure safe operations.
• Assists senior technicians in performing preventative maintenance inspections.
• Aids senior technicians on larger projects.
• Learns to identify defects affecting equipment availability and operator safety.
• Adjusts brakes, clutches, and other vehicle utilities.
• Adjusts hydraulic pressures and components of equipment.
• Performs tire changes and repairs.
• Builds, rebuilds or replaces hydraulic components and hoses.
• Learns lockout/tagout procedures.
• Participates in training and learning opportunities to support company goals.
