Job summary

Ryder in Highland Park, MI is hiring a Mid-Level Diesel Technician to service heavy‑duty vehicles. You will perform preventive maintenance, diagnose and repair mechanical and electronic systems, and communicate with drivers about repairs.

The role uses state‑of‑the‑art diagnostics and tools, includes paid training, tool/boot allowances, and opportunities for quarterly and certification bonuses. Weekly pay and a clear path for career development are offered.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Vocational or Technical Certification, preferred.
• Basic tools, required.
• Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines including: routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake, tire work).
• Two years or more of a combination of classroom training and work experience, preferred.
• Valid CDL Class A, preferred.
• Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire; pass Ryder drug test, DOT physical, road test, and background check.

Responsibilities

• Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties.
• Performs standard vehicle maintenance.
• Performs standard component inspections and repairs.
• Performs preventive maintenance.
• Diagnoses standard mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computer when applicable.
• Identifies root cause of basic failures/conditions and performs repairs as required.
• Interacts with customers/drivers to determine nature of the complaint.
• Uses Shop Management System and electronic documentation.
• Complies with safety, DOT, MOT, and corporate guidelines.
• Performs other support duties including Service Island support as needed.
