Cummins Inc. in Cincinnati, OH is seeking a Diesel Technician / Mechanic to join our Distribution team. The role is hybrid, with work at the Cincinnati shop and nearby customer sites, and includes a company service vehicle for travel.

You will perform complex engine repairs, diagnostics, and mentoring while maintaining service records and adhering to safety policies. A CDL and commitment to ongoing training are required.

Qualifications

  • Advanced engine repair capabilities with minimal supervision.
  • CDL Class A or B preferred or willing to obtain.
  • Experience with CNG engines or willingness to learn.
  • Experience performing engine overhauls.
  • Ability to diagnose equipment issues with limited software reliance.
  • Understanding of aftertreatment systems.
  • Ability to mentor junior technicians and assist with diagnostics and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Complete repairs on engine products in a service shop or customer location.
  • Perform maintenance/repairs utilizing diagnostic tools.
  • Maintain detailed records of serviced vehicles.
  • Adhere to Cummins Health, Safety & Environmental policies.

Job description

Diesel Technician / Mechanic

We are looking for a talented Diesel Technician / Mechanic to join our Distribution business in Cincinnati, OH.

This is a hybrid position working Monday through Thursday from 1:30 PM to 12:00 AM and will involve working at our Cincinnati shop as well as supporting nearby customer sites. A company service vehicle will be provided for travel to customer locations.

You will make an impact in the following ways:
  • Complete repairs on engine products in a service shop or customer location
  • Perform maintenance/repairs utilizing diagnostic tools
  • Maintain detailed records of serviced vehicles
  • Adhere to Cummins Health, Safety & Environmental policies
  • Ongoing development/certifications on new and existing Cummins products
  • Maintain own tools
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
  • Completes complex internal engine repairs and major engine rebuilds with minimal supervision.
  • Holds a Class A or Class B CDL, or is willing and able to obtain one.
  • Has experience working with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) engines, or demonstrates a willingness to learn and develop expertise in this area.
  • Performs complex engine overhauls independently.
  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment issues with limited reliance on diagnostic software and tools.
  • Possesses a thorough understanding of aftertreatment systems and their components.
  • Provides technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians, including support with diagnostics, repairs, and service documentation.
Compensation and Benefits

Base salary rate commensurate with experience. Education, Licenses, Certifications:

Apprentice Trained Engine Technician (Preferred)

Vocational diploma from relevant technical institution

Locally valid driving permit (Preferred)

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience:

Advanced level knowledge of and/or experience with engine products

Experience providing technical advice and coaching to more junior technicians (preferred)

Chassis and expanded service work

  • A current valid CDL is required for this role.
  • This role requires a 5 year motor vehicle report, free of major violations
  • This role is subject to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) drug and alcohol testing requirements and on going random drug and alcohol testing
  • This role requires applicant to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical
  • This role is subject to Department of Transportation (DOT) driving regulations including Hours of Service and Electronic Log Booking Device use
  • Federal law requires operators of commercial vehicles to be 21 years of age or older, applicant must be 21 years of age
