Job summary

Drivergent Transportation in Metro Detroit is seeking a skilled School Bus Mechanic to maintain safety and reliability of our student transportation fleet. You will diagnose, repair, and test vehicles to keep routes on schedule.

Candidates should have automotive tech education and hands-on diesel/HD maintenance experience, pass drug screening, and be eligible for Michigan CDL and ASE certifications. We offer PTO, health benefits after 30 days, and a 401(k) with company match.

Qualifications

• Must meet state licensing requirements and company standards.
• Pass drug and alcohol screening as required by the company.
• Vehicle maintenance experience required; truck, tractor, and/or diesel maintenance preferred.
• May require Michigan CDL Class B with School Bus (S) and Passenger (P) endorsements, no air brake restriction.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose vehicle problems and perform repairs per manufacturers' instructions; perform road tests.
• Inspect, service, and repair electrical systems; service brakes, transmissions, cooling lines, and tires.
• Answer service calls and respond to breakdowns; conduct on-site repairs when possible.
• Repair hydraulic wheelchair lifts and install seat belts on special needs buses.
• Prepare maintenance reports and consult with vendors regarding parts.

Vehicle maintenance experience

Five years driving experience

Valid driver’s license

Education

Technical School degree in automotive fields

Tools

ASE Licenses (Heavy Duty)
