Job summary

Drivergent Transportation in Sterling Heights, MI is seeking a part-time School Bus Mechanic to keep our fleet safe and on schedule. You'll diagnose, repair, and maintain school buses, service vehicles, and related equipment to support our drivers and students.

The role requires state mechanic licensing, 1–3 years of experience, and ability to pass drug screening. We offer paid time off, health benefits after 30 days, and a 401(k) plan with company match.

Qualifications

• Must meet state mechanic licensing requirements.
• Pass drug and alcohol screening as established by the company.
• Meet company standards for criminal history check.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose vehicle problems and perform repairs per manufacturer instructions and State and Federal regulations.
• Perform road tests on vehicles.
• Inspect and repair electrical systems, engine tune-ups, and troubleshoot engines; rebuild if necessary.
• Inspect, service, and repair transmissions, cooling lines, filters, brake systems, air, hydraulic, drive train, front suspension, windows, and frames.
• Inspect, service, and repair wiper motors, switches, arms, and blades; check body damage and handle body repairs.
• Inspect, service, and repair cooling systems, radiators, hoses, pumps, and blocks; repair carburetors and fuel problems; inspect, service, and repair exhaust systems.
• Answer service calls, respond to breakdowns, and conduct on-site repairs when possible.
• Repair hydraulic wheelchair lifts and hydraulic lift gates; install seat belts and harnesses on special-needs buses.
