Job summary

The State of Indiana, via INDOT Crawfordsville Sub‑District, is seeking a Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair heavy equipment, trucks, and related tooling. You will diagnose issues, perform major and minor repairs, and support snowfighting operations while upholding safety standards and EMS recordkeeping. A valid CDL is required (or obtained within 90 days).

CDL endorsements may add $1/hr. A high school diploma or equivalent with 1+ years in a similar role is acceptable.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Class A or Class B CDL or obtain within the first 90 days.
• Thorough knowledge of automobile functions, systems, and repairs.
• Thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment usage.
• Thorough knowledge of appropriate safety precautions.
• Ability to understand the system of mechanical procedures.

Responsibilities

• Rebuild, replace, and/or repair major parts on cars, light trucks, heavy-duty trucks, and heavy equipment.
• Perform minor repairs or related mechanical work including tires, diesel injectors, hydraulic components.
• Install snowplow blades and repair damaged plow assemblies.
• Maintain EMS records and order/collect parts as needed.
• Service highway equipment in the field and weld as required.
• Diagnose engine issues and inspect vehicles/equipment; perform winter operations duties.
