Job summary

State of Indiana, through INDOT, seeks a Diesel Mechanic for the West Lafayette Sub-District to perform repairs on heavy equipment and vehicles and to diagnose and resolve issues following current procedures and safety standards.

NDOT offers comprehensive benefits and a competitive hourly pay starting around $24.26/hour, with additional pay for CDL possession and support for CDL training. Tools reimbursement and ongoing professional development are included.

Qualifications

• Must possess a Class A or Class B CDL or obtain one within the first 90 days of employment.
• Thorough knowledge of automobile functions, systems, and repairs.
• Familiarity with diagnostic equipment and procedures.
• Strong safety awareness and practices.
• Ability to understand mechanical procedures and repair workflows.

Responsibilities

• Rebuild, replace, or repair major parts on cars, light and heavy trucks, and heavy equipment.
• Perform minor repairs and service on tires, diesel injectors, hydraulic components, etc.
• Install snowplow blades and repair plow assemblies.
• Maintain EMS records for parts and work performed, and manage parts orders.
• Provide roadside service calls and field repairs as needed.
• Attend training, safety, and shop meetings as required.
• Order or pick up parts as directed by supervision.
