Job summary

Madisonville Community College seeks a Diesel Mechanic Instructor to lead hands-on and classroom instruction at the Lisman Training Complex. You will advise students, participate in committees, contribute to community service, and pursue ongoing professional development.

The successful candidate will use active teaching methods and available technology, maintain current industry knowledge, and align with the college mission of a comprehensive community college.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or diploma in Diesel Technician Repair with 2 years’ experience.
  • Combination of formal training in Diesel Technology with 2 years field experience or 2 years teaching experience in Diesel Technician industry.
  • ASE or Master ASE Certifications required.
  • Broad background in Diesel Technology, Medium/Heavy Duty Trucks.
  • Previous teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs classes in Diesel Technician across classroom, shop, range, and distance education modes; assignments may be at off-campus centers and may include evening classes.
  • Provides academic consulting and responds to student needs through office hours, email, or other effective communication.
  • Develops course syllabi, handouts, and materials; evaluates progress with timely feedback.
  • Participates in meetings, in-service training, curriculum development, and college committees.
  • Ensures compliance with laws and college procedures; supports strategic plan and other duties as assigned.
  • Instructs courses based on qualifications and expertise; supervises paraprofessionals or work-study students.
  • Collaborates with industry to stay current with technologies and trends.

Job Summary

Faculty responsibilities include advising, committee work and other institutional services, community service, and professional development. The successful candidate must possess a strong commitment to student learning and will be receptive to using active and engaged teaching methods and technology in the classroom. In addition, candidates should demonstrate an interest in the mission of the comprehensive community college concept.

Job Duties
  • Prepares for and instructs, through traditional classroom, shop, range, and distance education modes, classes in the discipline of Diesel Technician; Assignments may be at off-campus centers and may also include evening classes.
  • Provides availability and accessibility to students for purpose of academic consulting and support, in a manner appropriate to meet student needs, through a combination of scheduled office hours, e-mail accessibility or other effective means of responsive and timely communication.
  • Communicates expectations and establishes clear grading criteria through appropriate instructional means, to include but not limited to developing course syllabi, handouts, and materials supporting the instructional process; evaluates student progress and provides clear, timely feedback.
  • Participates in district, division, department, or general faculty meetings; in-service training; curriculum development; academic consulting; workshops or seminars; service on district or college councils or committees, or other activities within the scope of the position.
  • Complies with state and federal law applicable to professional duties and responsibilities; Follows established procedures in areas such as printing, turning in grades, bookstore orders, office support, student financial aid requirements, safety and health issues and related administrative processes.
  • Support and advance the college strategic plan, and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Instruct courses in related disciplines based upon individual qualifications and expertise.
  • Supervise paraprofessional employees or direct the work of assigned work-study students.
  • Demonstrate that assigned staff have been informed how behavior and performance will be assessed, receive timely and accurate feedback regarding performance, and any observed performance and behavioral problems are corrected promptly.
  • Collaborates with business and industry to maintain an awareness of current technologies, trends, and issues.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree or diploma in Diesel Technician Repair from an accredited institution and 2 years’ experience.
  • A combination of formal training in Diesel Technology as evidenced through a documented record of training programs completed, plus either: 2 years of relevant work experience in the field of Diesel Technician, OR 2 years of relevant and recent teaching experience in Diesel Technician industry.
  • ASE or Master ASE Certifications required.
  • Broad background in Diesel Technology, Medium/Heavy Duty Trucks.
  • Previous teaching experience preferred.
