Summary

Prepare students for gainful employment in various positions in the diesel technology industry. Instruct the students in the proper use of hand tools used in the repair of diesel engines, electrical systems, fuel systems, and suspension/brakes. Teach students how to operate equipment used in the diagnosis and repair of diesel technology. As many of the duties will be supervising groups of students without benefit of additional help or administrative supervision, the job requires significant self‑discipline, internal motivation, and sound judgment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach troubleshooting and repair of fuel systems, tune‑up, electrical systems, safety rules, etc. on the diesel engine.
  • Provide instruction in customer relations.
  • Maintain competency‑based diesel technology curriculum.
  • Recruit students and market the program.
  • Develop student knowledge and awareness of industrial safety, punctuality, personal cleanliness, work ethic, and communication skills.
  • Assist with employment placement of graduates.
  • Oversee safe and orderly classrooms and supervise class and shop organization; ensure the shop is clean and meets all safety regulations.
  • Ensure student achievement for all student groups by monitoring progress through appropriate testing techniques and technology when appropriate.
  • Build positive school/community relations by supporting the mission of the College and facilitating cooperation among all persons in the school community.
  • Lead students in developing constructive peer and student/instructor relations.
  • Oversee effective and efficient student performance.
  • Practice responsible fiscal, facility, and resource management.
  • Prepare and submit reports, grades, etc. on a timely basis in the manner designated by the College.
  • Model positive professional attributes.
  • Attend commencement ceremonies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Two years continuous job experience beyond apprenticeship training in the diesel technology industry.
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Skill and ability to convey knowledge to students effectively.
  • Ability to use college‑identified computer hardware and software and other technology as provided.
  • Ability to represent and promote the welfare of the College as required.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and constructively with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with varied audiences.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Responsible for overall supervision of students in class. May be assigned supervision of Work Study/Work Arrangement students. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing student work.

Physical Demands

The employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Work Environment

The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Frequently exposed to the risk of electrical shock and vibration. Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
