Job summary

Mechanics' Local 701 Technician Training Center is seeking a dynamic Automotive & Diesel Instructor to join our education team. This role delivers hands-on training across automotive, medium/heavy duty diesel, and equipment repair, developing curricula and fostering an inclusive learning environment.

You will teach lectures and shop/lab sessions, assess student performance, and contribute to lesson planning, all on a full-time weekday schedule.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years industry experience in automotive/medium/heavy truck as a Journeyman Technician or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years teaching experience in auto/diesel at a professional training facility within the last 10 years preferred.
  • Clean driving record and valid driver's license.
  • Ability to pass background check and drug testing.
  • ASE Master Certification in Automotive and Truck series, or ability to achieve Master status including L1 within 120 days and stay current.

Job description

The Mechanics' Local 701 Technician Training Center is seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Automotive & Diesel Instructor to join our education team. This role is vital in delivering comprehensive training that prepares students for careers in automotive, medium/heavy duty diesel, and equipment repair. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for teaching, extensive technical expertise, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment. You will engage students through hands‑on instruction, curriculum development, and innovative teaching methods to ensure they gain the practical skills necessary for success in the industry. This position offers an exciting opportunity to influence the next generation of automotive and diesel technicians while working in a collaborative, forward‑thinking setting.

Responsibilities

As an Instructor, your day-to-day tasks will include delivering lectures, conducting practical training sessions in a shop/lab environment, assisting in curriculum development, preparing lesson plans, grading and tracking student performance, student performance evaluations, test proctoring, leading by a positive example, and providing guidance and support to students as they develop their skills and knowledge in the Automotive and Medium/Heavy Truck field. Full time Instructors teach on a consistent, 8 hour daily schedule, Monday through Friday.

Qualifications
  • A minimum of 3 years of Industry experience in the Automotive and/or Medium/Heavy Truck Industry as a Journeyman Technician or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years teaching experience in the Auto/Diesel Industry (as an Instructor) at a professional training facility within the last 10 years is preferred, but similar experience may be considered
  • Clean driving record and valid Driver's License
  • The ability to pass a background check and drug testing
  • ASE Master Certification in Automotive and Truck series, or the ability to achieve current Master status including L1 within 120 days of start date and remain current with Industry technology as it evolves through further training and certifications as required
  • Proficiency in technology and software relevant to the automotive and diesel industryExcellent communication, creativity, and presentation skills to effectively deliver lectures and engage with students
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to accommodate different learning styles, experience levels, and abilities
  • A high degree of attention to detail and efficient record keeping
  • Ability to prepare the lab/shop area, conduct shop lab tasks in an efficient and effective manner, and ensure a safe and positive learning environment at all times
  • A passion for teaching and mentoring students, patience, compassion and the ability to create a positive and supportive learning environment
  • Possess professional character that can join our close knit team which thrives on mutual support. You will actively contribute to a positive, collaborative, daily work culture.
  • This role requires physical labor including/ but not limited to: standing for extended periods of time, bending, squatting, crouching, occasionally handling chemicals, the ability to function in a typical automotive/ diesel repair shop environment, and lifting up to 50 lbs on a regular basis
