Davis Cartage Co. in Corunna, Michigan is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our fleet maintenance team.

This full-time role involves inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing heavy‑duty diesel trucks and equipment to keep our operations DOT compliant and on schedule. You will perform preventative maintenance, use precision tools, document repairs accurately, and collaborate with a professional maintenance group.

Qualifications

• Two or more years of diesel mechanic or related mechanical experience preferred.
• Experience repairing commercial trucks and diesel engines.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.
• Knowledge of diesel engine systems, drivetrain components, brakes, suspension, and electrical systems.
• Experience using hand tools, precision measuring instruments, and shop equipment.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain commercial trucks and diesel-powered equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and DOT-compliant fleet operations.
• Diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and engine performance issues.
• Inspecting and repairing diesel engines used in commercial trucks.
• Disassembling engines to identify worn or damaged components.
• Rebuilding diesel engines and replacing defective parts.
• Repairing or replacing pistons, bearings, gears, valves, bushings, and related engine components.
• Performing preventative maintenance and scheduled inspections.
• Using precision measuring instruments and specialized diagnostic equipment.
• Operating machine tools, engine lathes, and boring equipment.
• Welding and cutting components using arc welding and flame cutting equipment when required.
• Completing repair documentation accurately.
• Ensuring all repairs meet DOT regulations and company safety standards.
• Working independently and as part of a professional maintenance team.
