Job summary

GFL Environmental in Jacksonville, NC is hiring a Diesel Mechanic to safely operate, repair, and maintain our heavy-duty diesel trucks and rolling stock. You will support drivers and keep our fleet running to serve the community.

We offer shift 1:30 PM–Midnight, 5x10s, OT, and a solid benefits package. Candidates should have 3+ years of hands-on experience, own tools, and proficiency with diagnostic software, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3+ year of hands-on experience as a diesel mechanic.
• High school diploma or GED (technical diploma or trade school preferred).
• Proficient with diagnostic software/tools and comfortable learning new software systems.
• Tools: Must possess and maintain your own set of tools required for heavy equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose & Repair heavy-duty diesel trucks, CNG, gas, hydraulic, and electrical equipment.
• Perform scheduled maintenance, rebuilds, and major repairs.
• Work Order Management: Track repairs, order required parts, and schedule jobs using our M5 system.
• Safety First: Maintain safe working conditions, comply with safety regulations, and utilize standard power and hand tools.

The Job

As a Diesel Mechanic, you are the backbone of our operations. You'll keep our fleet of heavy-duty diesel trucks and rolling stock running safely and efficiently so our drivers can serve the community.

• Diagnose & Repair: Troubleshoot and fix heavy-duty diesel trucks, CNG, gas, hydraulic, and electrical equipment.
• 3+ years of experience with DEF systems / aftertreatment systems Maintenance & Overhauls: Perform scheduled maintenance, rebuilds, and major repairs.
• Work Order Management: Track repairs, order required parts, and schedule jobs using our M5 system.
• Safety First: Maintain safe working conditions, comply with safety regulations, and utilize standard power and hand tools.

What We're Looking For

• Experience: Minimum 3+ year of hands-on experience as a diesel mechanic.
• Education: High school diploma or GED (technical diploma or trade school preferred).
• Skills: Proficient with diagnostic software/tools and comfortable learning new software systems.
• Tools: Must possess and maintain your own set of tools required for heavy equipment maintenance.
• Mindset: Reliable, independent problem solver who follows safety procedures and federal/state/local regulations.
• Physical Capability: Ability to safely operate equipment and perform all physical aspects of heavy vehicle maintenance.
