Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking a skilled diesel/CNG mechanic to maintain and repair heavy-duty trucks and equipment, diagnose engines, and perform advanced electrical diagnostics.

As part of Team Green, you will lead inspections, mentor junior mechanics, ensure safety compliance, and contribute to reliable waste management services with competitive pay and benefits. This is a full-time, on-site role in the United States with ASE certifications preferred and CDL beneficial.

Qualifications

  • Brake safety certificate and 609 A/C system certification.
  • 2+ years of diesel/CNG maintenance experience.
  • ASE certifications preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed schematics.
  • DOT/OSHA regulations knowledge.
  • Class A or B CDL preferred.
  • Ability to communicate across organization and with customers.
  • Experience using diagnostic software.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair diesel and CNG powered trucks.
  • Lead inspections of brake systems and engine components.
  • Mentor level B and C mechanics.
  • Prioritize repairs for efficiency and timely completion.
  • Review write-ups and coordinate repair schedules.
  • Perform DOT and brake inspections on all vehicles.
  • Complete reports and order parts.
  • Maintain safe working conditions and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Interpret electrical and diagnostic schematics.
  • Participate in training and development.
  • Keep work area clean.

Our Mechanics safely operate, repair, rebuild and perform maintenance on Company owned or leased heavy duty diesel trucks and equipment including rolling stock to ensure its ability to operate safely, so our Drivers can continue tokeep local neighborhoods clean and safe, by courteously and efficiently providing waste removal and environmental services to customers.

Essential Functions
  • Must specialize in engine diagnostics (Cummins Insite/JPRO/Mack tech tool)
  • Must specialize in DPF after treatment.
  • Advanced ability to diagnose and repair Diesel and CNG powered trucks (where applicable), including engines, electrical systems, propane systems, hydraulics, and fuel systems.
  • Independently lead inspections of brake systems, all engine components, emission systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings and other important parts to ensure they are in proper operating condition.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to level B and C mechanics.
  • Prioritize repairs to maximize efficiency and timely completion of work orders.
  • Oversee the review of mechanical write-ups on equipment and coordinate repair schedule.
  • Perform DOT and brake inspections on all vehicles.
  • Complete reports, work orders, order parts and perform other administrative duties as required daily.
  • Ensure safe working conditions and compliance with all safety regulations.
  • Understand and interpret intricate electrical and diagnostics schematics.
  • Active participation in training classes and development opportunities to increase skills and working knowledge.
  • Maintain a clean work area.
Education, Training, Experience And Licensing/Certification Requirements
  • Knowledge of DOT, OSHA and other related state and federal regulations
  • Must have a Brake safety certificate and 609 A/C system certification.
  • ASE Certifications preferred
  • Ability to understand and interpret detailed schematics and manuals.
  • Communicate effectively across various levels of the organization and communicate with customers and external vendors.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating, and maintenance instructions and procedural manuals.
  • Experience using diagnostic software. Must be computer literate and willing and able to be trained in software systems.
  • Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred.
  • 2+ years of diesel/CNG (where applicable) maintenance experience
